Retraction and Correction
The integrity of the published record is a foundation of scholarly publishing. In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to retract, correct, or remove published articles to maintain the credibility of the research record. This policy outlines the procedures for retraction, correction, removal, and replacement of published content in the Journal of Instruction and Islamic Religious Education (JIIRE).
1. Article Retraction
Retraction is applied to published articles with severe errors or ethical violations that compromise the integrity of the research. JIIRE follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines to ensure a standardized process.
1.1 Grounds for Retraction:- Significant scientific errors that invalidate the article’s findings (e.g., data fabrication or miscalculation).
- Cases of redundant publication without proper citation or permission.
- Ethical misconduct, such as plagiarism or inappropriate authorship.
- The editor receives a report indicating a potential retraction case.
- The editor follows the COPE flowchart to assess the validity of the claim.
- The editor consults the Ethics Advisory Board for a consistent approach.
- The author(s) are notified and given an opportunity to respond within 14 days.
- If the retraction is confirmed, a retraction statement is published, linking to the original article, which will be watermarked as "Retracted."
Important: Retraction does not remove the article but clearly marks it as retracted, ensuring the integrity of the academic record.
2. Article Correction
Corrections are issued when minor errors are identified that do not significantly alter the overall findings of the article but require clarification or amendment.
2.1 Grounds for Correction:- Minor data errors that do not affect the overall conclusions.
- Errors in the author list, such as omissions or incorrect authorship.
- Erratum: Issued for errors caused by the journal or publisher (e.g., layout or production errors).
- Corrigendum: Issued for errors made by the author(s) (e.g., data misinterpretation).
- Addendum: Issued to provide additional information or clarification related to the published content.
The final decision to issue a correction rests with the Editor, who may consult the authors and reviewers before proceeding.
3. Article Removal
Article removal is considered only in exceptional cases where content poses serious legal, ethical, or health risks. In such cases:
- The title and author information will remain, but the content will be replaced with a notice stating the reason for removal.
- Examples of grounds for removal include defamation, legal violations, or public health risks.
4. Article Replacement
Replacement is permitted when a significant error compromises public health or safety. The original article will be retracted and replaced with a corrected version. The retraction notice will include a link to the revised article and a document history.
5. General Policy Statement
Authors should note that retaining copyright does not grant them the right to unilaterally retract or delete published content. All decisions regarding retraction, correction, removal, or replacement are made at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board and in accordance with COPE guidelines.
